CHARLOTTE AREA GREEN PARTY SEPTEMBER 2003 MEETING MINUTES

Members Present: Mark Ortiz, Alan Burns, Harry Phillips, Gregg Jocoy, Kathryn Kuppers, Judy Aulette

Guests: Albert Aulette

The meeting began with a discussion of the need for state ballot access. We agreed to sign a petition from the American Civil Liberties Union that challenges the wording in the current signature form, claiming that it’s illegal and unconstitutional. Gray and Elena have made initial contact with the ACLU in Atlanta. Alan will contact Gray and Elena to clarify who should sign the ACLU-sponsored affidavit.

Mark reported that we have $1066.90 in our treasury, of which $2 is held in cash.

Regarding the CAGP website, we need to update our “book list” and welcome message. Updates should be sent to Kathryn, who will get them to Michael. Kathryn, who will continue to monitor the website on a weekly basis, should be apprised of other needed changes. Judy may be interested in contributing to website maintenance and Mark will get her Michael’s contact information.

The problem of the CAGP not being acknowledged during the Labor Day parade will be brought to the attention of LD parade organizers by Greg and Kathryn at the next LD parade meeting. We will continue to march in the parade. The meeting to evaluate this year’s parade is scheduled for November 6, 2003.

Regarding the NCGP Fall Conference, Harry will make contact with the Common Market concerning the CAGP providing lunch. One hundred dollars from our treasury will go to this effort.

Mark was our lone representative at The Evening Muse in Septemeber. Gregg will get an estimate for having 500 CAGP business cards printed to distribute at this and other actions. Alan will see if Talley’s can host us in place of or in addition to our presence at The Evening Muse. We will continue at The Evening Muse in October.

Alan, Mark, Judy, Albert, and Kathryn expressed willingness to collect ballot access signatures at this year’s state fair in Raleigh.

NIRS filed a lawsuit against corporations planning to use MOX fuel at Catawba and McGuire power plants. Gregg is involved in preparing a letter for circulation regarding this issue, and he will circulate a draft for comment and approval.

Gray, Alan, and Gregg will table at the Pagan Pride festival. A November stream clean-up is planned. Alan volunteered to host a yard sale this Fall.

Respectfully Submitted,

Harry Phillips
