Minutes
of Charlotte Area Green Party's Meeting of 10-13-01
- Kajur reads last month's minutes
- Alan gives update on the statewide gathering
- It is said, Bruce Henderson from the Observer says keep contacting
him
- Growing session: We need to learn from our mistakes:
- we need more people and more time to promote events
- we need to eat when we meet at minority businesses
- we need accurate petition taking
- know when to fall back on going for write-in access rather than
ballot access
- Mark reports: CAGs have $268.11; $11.61 is in our cashbox
- Reimbursements will be made to:
- Steve Tafel = $25
- Alan Burns = $125
- We are getting charged a $7.50 service fee if our account balance
is less than $1,000.
- Mark offers switching $1,000 of his money to our account to save
the service fee and although we don't have a quorum, this isn't a money
expenditure so it is left up to Mark
- The idea of having a yard sale to raise money:
- Find out if Chuck's place is okay
- What date would he like to have it?
- Coalition building brought up again and discussed
- Sierra Club a likely coalition building candidate
- Brainstorming on September 11:
- Best defense is offense? Or defense?
- Defend against terrorism
- Change roles in Iraq, Israel
- Newspapers are selective even in respect to reporters
- Our administration should admit mistakes
- Are the CIA's "lions" behind this?
- Is this a war? Is this a war crime? Is this a holy war?
- Mostly agreed upon steps to include in our position paper:
- Independent thinking
- Due process of law rather than rash revenge
- No curtailment of civil liberties
- No draft
- No more wars for oil
- Revising foreign policy
- Bringing back forces abroad and leaving foreign policy to U.N.
- No "carte blanche" for Bush
- Mark will draft a position paper, Kathryn will help
- Attempts to adopt a stream and highway will further
- Stream = Little Sugar Creek from Fourth St. to Baxter St.
- Highways = I-77 from Woodlawn to Tyvola, Moose or Turkey, and Sam
Black.
