CHARLOTTE AREA GREEN PARTY OCTOBER 9, 2004 MEETING MINUTES
Present: Alan Burns, Gregg Jocoy, Kathryn Kuppers, Mark Ortiz, Nick Triplett, Susan Triplett
Kathryn relayed the information from Casey Watson, treasurer, that our bank balance is $2,329.21.
Gregg discussed Efia Nwangaza’s being shut out of the senatorial debates in South Carolina. He proposed that one way to alleviate this kind of problem would be for every Green Party member to join the League of Women Voters, as they are the group which organizes these debates.
Alan Burns reported that the tabling event at CPCC on October 6 provided a very good opportunity for outreach. Over a hundred students picked up literature about the national and local parties, and almost as many listened to Kathryn and Alan explain the goals and challenges facing the Green Party in North Carolina. Kathryn suggested that we could have used more than 2 volunteers for 4 hours of tabling, but overall it was a pleasant experience.
Alan reported that his talk at Jay M. Robinson High School in Cabarrus County went well. He spoke to about 23 students for about 75 minutes, and showed a clip of Cobb’s acceptance speech as well.
The time for the start of the November 6 Little Sugar Creek stream clean-up was confirmed as 8:45 AM. Kajur Washburn will pick up the boots and gloves.
There was unanimous approval for continuing to pay the CAGP webmaster, Michael Sharpe, $60/month for at least the next three months ( Nov, Dec, Jan), but Gregg and Nick suggested that the site needs to be redesigned in the near future.
The proposed bylaws amendments- 1.changing the requirement of scheduling monthly meetings to requiring only quarterly meetings in January, April, July, and October, and 2.changing the definition of "active member" from those members who have participated in 3 sponsored events or meetings in the last 6 months, to members who have attended at least one of the last three quarterly meetings- passed unanimously.
Two $200 campaign donations were approved unanimously, to Efia Nwangaza and David Cobb. Alan will meet with Casey to get the checks signed.
