CHARLOTTE AREA GREEN PARTY NOVEMBER 2003 MEETING MINUTES
Members Present: Albert Aulette, Judy Aulette, Alan Burns, Kathryn Kuppers, Mark Ortiz, Harry Phillips
Mark reported that there was no activity in the CAGP treasury since the October meeting. The checking account balance stands at $1,024.90.
Mark went to the Evening Muse Friday evening, November 7, but the CAGP did not set up a table with literature. Mark suggested the CAGP could show a video before the musical acts on the first Friday in December. He will contact the owner of the Evening Muse to get permission to do this.
Alan and Kathryn reported their experiences at the NC State Fair collecting signatures for ballot access. The NCGP shared a booth with Forests of the World. Alan and Kathryn both agreed that the limited space, which allowed only one person at a time to work the crowd was a problem. They also pointed out the need for larger and better placed signs. The experience from members who have gathered signatures is that 10-12 signatures per hour is the most one volunteer can get in a totally mixed crowd such as one finds at a state fair. Individuals almost always ask for an explanation of what the Green Party is before signing (or not signing) the petition, and that explanation can take several minutes. A suggestion was made that next year the NCGP should try to get its own booth.
Kathryn reported that four volunteers helped with Little Sugar Creek stream clean-up held the morning before the meeting. The water quality was very bad, the water was dark gray and smelly, and had a sheen of oil in places. The water was very high and much of the trash was buried in silt so we could not get to it, but we removed several hundred pounds of trash. The next clean-up will be in May.
The six members present at this meeting partially previewed and approved the video: “What I Have Learned About U.S. Foreign Policy: CIA covert operations and U.S. interventions since WWII” for a public showing. Mark Ortiz is providing the video. Judy Aulette will provide a video projector and screen. We hope to present this video on the first Friday in December at the Evening Muse.
The next CAGP meeting was set for December 13 at Judy Aulette’s house from 1-3:30 PM on December 13, 2003.
