Minutes of Charlotte Area Green Party - March 30, 2002
This meeting was held in lieu of an April meeting.
- Gray Newman presented printed information on the GPUS/GPUSA conflict. Only seven states are NOT
affiliated with GPUS. For the details contact Gray, dibloc@aol.com.
- Gray suggested that the CAGP could work on a Habitat for Humanity house. No definite plans were
made.
- Mark gave the treasurer’s report. There is $281.11 in checking and $20.00 in cash. A $10.00 check has been sent to Carter for Governor (Maine). There have been no other expenditures.
- CAGP members attending the state convention in Chapel Hill on April 13, 2002 will meet for lunch at a restaurant to be named.
- There were several suggestions made for using the media to publicize the CAGP activities: 1.put a ¼” classified ad in Creative Loafing, 2. have the meetings announced in ALL of the “Neighborhood” sections of The Charlotte Observer( not just in the Mecklenburg edition), 3.put a banner ad at Charlotte.com, 4.place an ad on Charlotte’s Web.
- Kathryn Kuppers announced that the CAGP is definitely a registered participant in the UNCC Earth Day event to be held on April 22, 2002. We will pass out some written materials and solicit signatures on the ballot petitions. To see the written materials, contact Kathryn at kathrynkuppers@earthlink.net. Kathryn will man the table until 1 pm; Judy will take over at that point for the rest of the day. Anyone is welcome to stop by and help out. The event will be at the Belk Tower at the center of the UNCC campus. We need some suggestions to liven up our table. PLEASE let us know if you have any bright ideas. Judy will find out if we can collect donations that day in case we want to put out T-shirts or bumper-stickers.
- Gregg Jocoy suggested that Gray, one of our outreach coordinators, setup a “corporate” email address, rather than the personal email address that the CAGP now uses for the public to contact us. Gray agreed.
- It was decided that the yard sale should be held on the 2nd Saturday in June. Members are asked to start gathering their unwanted items. It was assumed that Chuck Hatley is still willing to host the sale at his house.
- Harry Phillips has been granted time to discuss the 24K proposal at the state convention in Chapel Hill. CAGP members were asked to consider pledging money to hire a full-time worker for the state party.
- There was a quorum present at this meeting, so new officers were elected for the CAGP. Alan Burns and Kathryn Kuppers will be co-coordinators, Harry Phillips and Gregg Jocoy will be co-clerks, and Mark Ortiz will remain as treasurer. Dues will remain at $20.00 (minimum) for the year (April 2002 to April 2003) and are due at this time. Dues may be sent to :Mark Ortiz, 155 Wankel Drive, Kannapolis, NC 28083-8200.
- There will be a GPUS convention in Philadelphia in July. Gray Newman and Gregg Jocoy are planning to attend.
- To be a sponsor of the Labor Day parade this year will cost $150.00. The Charlotte Labor Council is organizing the parade. It was decided that the CAGP should wait until the May 11 meeting to decide whether or not to be a sponsor this year.
