CHARLOTTE AREA GREEN PARTY JULY 2004 MEETING MINUTES
Present: Alan Burns, Kathryn Kuppers, Jonathan McGovern, Harry Phillips, Kajur Washburn
Kathryn reported that the CAGP checking account balance stands at $2,956.16. Recent expenditures were $235 for the Labor Day Parade and banner, and $120 to Michael Sharpe for webmaster duties. A total of $30 dues was received from Judy Aulette and Mark Ortiz. Treasurer Casey Watson has yet to deposit a $25 donation from Kathryn Kuppers.
Harry and Alan asked for volunteers to go to Asheville on July 11 to gather signatures on petitions for qualifying David Cobb as a write-in presidential candidate in NC. They reported that the signature-gathering at the Neighborhood Theatre before the David Grisman concert was fairly successful, but was cut short when the doors opened. Jonathan also gathered signatures at the theater when there was a younger audience present and found it difficult to find registered voters. Alan, Kathryn, and Jonathan hope to petition again in the NODA district during the upcoming week. Petitions must be in to county boards by Monday.
A short discussion on the design and wording for the banner to carry in the Labor Day Parade led to a flexible decision that we should have the four pillars of the Green Party on it somewhere, and if possible, also have the website address of the CAGP. Everyone agreed that we must have “Charlotte Area Green Party” on the banner.
Alan presented the very professional-looking brochure that Susan Triplette had drawn up. Some changes will be made before more copies are made. The text will be sent out to members via email for approval soon. Kajur and Kathryn requested that the next batch of brochures be printed on recycled paper.
Alan also presented the ballot that Nick and Susan designed for the mock IRV presidential election that the CAGP will conduct at the August 14 Dilworth Jubilee. We will man a table at the festival from 10 AM until 5 PM. Alan asked for preliminary approval of purchase of a tent for the Dilworth Jubilee for approximately $60, if Gregg Jocoy is not able to let us use his tent. Reimbursement for the purchase of the tent will have to wait for the next meeting where we have a quorum.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:10 PM when the guided forest walk at Ribbonwalk began. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and we learned a lot about both the native ferns and fungi, and the invasive plants in the forest.
The next CAGP meeting will be at 10 AM at our tent at the Dilworth Jubilee on August 14, 2004.
