CHARLOTTE AREA GREEN PARTY JANUARY 12, 2008 MEETING MINUTES
Attending: Alan Burns, Tom Bowers, Len Clemmer, Ken Davies, Elizabeth Donovan, Ken Hausle, Gregg Jocoy, Kathryn Kuppers, Gray Newman, Harry Phillips, Bre Reiber,
Nick Triplett, Owen Triplett
Ken Hausle was elected treasurer to replace the resigning treasurer, Alan Burns. Alan reported a balance of $458.92, with another $92 on hand for deposit.
The MLK parade will line-up at the Hal Marshal Center at 9:30 on Saturday, January 19. Alan will bring the banner.
Nick has been able to take over maintenance of the CAGP website. He will see if Michael Sharpe expects further payment for his past services as CAGP webmaster. Elizabeth Donovan offered to host the CAGP website in the future.
The Charlotte Pride event will be on Saturday, July 26, at Gateway Village from 11 AM through 6 PM. It was agreed that the CAGP will table at the event. The tabling fee is $40.
The Earth Day event at Ray’s Splash Planet this year will be on April 19 from 10 AM to 3 PM. Early payment of the tabling fee would allow a reduced payment of $75. However, we decided that the CAGP will pay no more than $50 for a tabling fee, and Nick will ask the organizers if that amount would be sufficient, since we are a non-profit.
There are several other Earth Day events for the CAGP to participate in in the Charlotte area, including the UNCC Earth Day event, that do not have any tabling fees.
The NCGP will sponsor the Ella Baker Tour that hopes to recruit new civil rights activists in the college community in several Southeastern states. Harry Phillips has arranged a daytime event at CPCC for students, and the CAGP has asked Theresa ElAmin to stay over that evening in Charlotte to speak at another event, possibly at UNCC. The expenses for Theresa’s extended stay will be presented to the NCGP for payment.
Tom Bowers was elected as the second delegate from the CAGP to the NCGP CC. Nick Triplett is the other delegate.
The Ballot Access hearing will be at 9:30 AM at the Wake County Court House, room D-10 on January 30, 2008. Kathryn will be leaving Midland at 6 AM that morning and wants to carpool. Alan and others will be leaving the night before.
It was decided that endorsing candidates from other parties should be put off until after the hearing, in case the Green Party is able to run its own candidates in North Carolina this year.
The next CAGP meeting is tentatively scheduled for April 5, 2008.
