Minutes of Charlotte Area Green Party, February 9, 2002
Written by Kathryn Kuppers, coclerk Charlotte Area Green Party
- Mark Ortiz gave the treasurer’s report. There is $153.50 in checking and $31.61 in the cash box.
- Kathryn Kuppers presented the written minutes from the January meeting for attendees to read if desired.
- There was a general consensus that affiliation should be discussed at the NC Green Party state convention in April. It was mentioned that GPUSA had advocated dissolving the U.S. Senate. Therefore there would be an apparent conflict between affiliating with GPUSA and running a green senatorial candidate.
- Mark Ortiz reported on the latest project of the UNCC Greens. They are erecting a “democracy wall”
near the center of campus out of scrounged materials and with the design help from the Art Department. It will provide a forum for the public to post written opinions.
- Mark said that Stan Goff will be in Charlotte February 27 through March 1 and suggested perhaps UNCC and CAGP could sponsor a speech by him at UNCC.
- A bylaws change was approved by a unanimous vote of six attending members. In section IX.A.1.b.,the word “sponsored” was changed to “endorsed”.
- Michael Sharpe reported that he had removed outdated material from the CAGP website and asked for suggestions for new material. Alan Burns will write a new mission statement. It was suggested that we obtain a link to Pay Pal in order to collect donations for CAGP more easily.
- Alan Burns and Harry Phillips met the environmental issues editor of the Charlotte Observer to talk about the essays on environmental concerns that the CAGP members could submit to the Charlotte Observer. However, the essays would be submitted to Jane Pope and Ed Williams, not Bruce, and would appear in the editorial section. Therefore the topics could be broadened to include non-environmental issues.
- Kathryn Kuppers reported that Judy Aulette has reserved the table for the Earth Day celebration at UNCC on April 22. Judy and Kathryn will man the tables, but would like some more people to help and keep them company. Judy will have to be gone part of the day to teach her classes, and it would be nice to have two persons at the table most of the time. Kathryn passed around a flyer that she drew up with a list of ways to live a “greener” life in the suburbs. No one seemed too interested in it, but if no one objects to it, we will pass it out in Earth Day. It has our website on the back of it. We need more materials to display or pass out.
- Alan Burns said he will post another set of questions to the yahoo group about the 9/11 breach of security and will send a copy to the Charlotte Observer and Creative Loafing after comments from CAGP members.
