MINUTES OF CHARLOTTE AREA GREEN PARTY, DECEMBER 13, 2003

Attending: Albert Aulette, Judy Aulette, Alan Burns, Gregg Jocoy, Kathryn Kuppers, Mark Ortiz, Harry Phillips, Jeff Ray

Alan was unanimously elected as new co-coordinator to replace Gray Newman.

Mark Ortiz reported no activity in the checking account, with the balance remaining at $1,024.90. The GPUS has not yet set up a political committee registered in North Carolina so the checks from the GPUS have been returned with the suggestion that the GPUS return the money to the original donors so that they can give the money directly to the Green Party in North Carolina.

A new member, Jeff Ray, was approved by consensus as a new webmaster for the CAGP. We all agreed that it would be much more convenient for a member who lives in the area to take over from Michael Sharpe who now lives in Raleigh. Thanks to Michael for getting our website off to a great start. One change that Jeff has suggested for the website is adding a place on the site for the visitor to enter his/her e-mail address so that the CAGP can contact him/her. Another suggested new page for the website would feature a “green” scorecard for local government officials.

The details of the goals and methods of the Meetup.com project were discussed. All the funding to run the project would come from the South Carolina Green Party, but Green Parties in all states would be in a position to benefit from the project. Talley’s Green Grocery has agreed to host meet-ups for the CAGP, with the discussions focusing on MOX fuel, air pollution, and genetically modified food.

Mark Ortiz gave the CIA operations video which the CAGP had hoped to present at the Evening Muse on December 5, to the owners of the Muse to preview. The owners will let us know if there will be a good time for us to show the video.

Alan Burns urged the CAGP to take some official position on the Charlotte City Council’s joining the legal action which would demand the EPA to control air pollution produced in states surrounding North Carolina. Kathryn and Alan will draw up some kind of letter or position paper on this.

Our next meeting was set for January 10th, 2004 from 1:00-3:30 PM at Judy and Albert Aulette’s house at 2214 Chatham Avenue, Charlotte.
