CHARLOTTE AREA GREEN PARTY APRIL 2003 MEETING MINUTES
- Before the meeting it was decided that Harry would continue taking minutes and that Kathryn would serve as party archivist.
- Mark reported that we have $1088.40 in our treasury. As of April 5, 2003, Mark, Harry, Alan, Michael, Gray, and Kathryn are paid-up 2003 CAGP members. Mark is preparing a report for the state, which needs to know our chair and treasurer and needs to be made aware of our plan to cover for Mark should he be unable to carry out treasurer duties. Mark noted that “treasurer training” is provided by the state and will next be held on May 21 in Raleigh. Kathryn informed us that the CAGP treasurer should issue an annual report.
- Gregg and Kathryn compiled March meeting minutes. They will write the minutes and circulate them before posting on our website.
- Gray reported on our presence at the Evening Muse (Gray, Alan, and Harry) and questioned why more of us were not there to help. He identified a problem with late-shift coverage. Gregg suggested that at future EM events we have a trifold display with bumper stickers, books, t-shirts, etc. available. We might request that someone in particular cover the late shift and post this on our listserve. Kathryn will set up our table for our May presence at EM.
- Judy Aulette and Kathryn will represent CAGP at UNCC’s Earth Day. They’ll collect signatures for ballot access and have available a “Beyond Recycling” handout as well as books.
- The Habitat House project begins April 25 and continues for the next six weekends. They need more workers on Sundays than Saturdays. Habitat House is doing a 20th anniversary “blitz” and trying to build 20 houses in a week. Charlotte’s Habitat House is the most active in the country.
- Our next stream clean-up will be May 10.
- A few CAGP members will table at the Charlotte Gay Pride event on May 3 at Marshall Park from 10 to 7. Gray has posted a schedule of events on our listserve. It was suggested that we ask Charlene to help out.
- Gray reported that documentary filmaker Michael Moore may be at Rolling Thunder in Asheville on May 3. NCGP is a sponsor and we’ll have a table. NCGP has been assigned a 2-3-minute speaker spot on Saturday. The “Veggie Car,” maintained by NCSU Greens, will be there. Attendance is expected to be high and this is a good chance for us to collect ballot access signatures.
- Gregg reported on the recent NRC hearing and that Judy presented our position. We should file additional documents with the NRC that address: citizens paying cost vs. those who benefit monetarily, whether overall benefits outweigh overall risks, and that we should all sign up to be “interveners” regarding McGuire Nuclear Plant’s request for a 20-year-extension for re-licensing. Gray, Gregg, Harry, Mark, and Alan agreed.
- The NCGP Spring 2003 convention agenda appears on the state website, ncgreenparty.org. CAGP will discuss at the convention how to keep a local together.
- Elena and Josh, visiting from Raleigh, will encourage statewide Greens to support HB #867, which, if passed, would reduce the number of signatures for ballot access from approximately 60K to 15K.
- Alan will meet the new owners of Living Simply on Sunday, April 6. Kathryn has written copy for a new CAGP ad to appear in Living Simply. Liz will design graphics for the ad.
- New CAGP officers for 2003-04: Mark, treasurer; Kathryn and Harry, co-clerks; Gray and Gregg, co-coordinators; Gregg, media and outreach.
- Mark reported that our “Pay Pal” option on our website will need to be removed for legal reasons.
Respectfully Submitted,
Harry Phillips, Co-Clerk
