CHARLOTTE AREA GREEN PARTY APRIL 2004 MEETING MINUTES

Attending: Alan Burns, Gregg Jocoy, Kathryn Kuppers, Mark Ortiz, Harry Phillips, Nick Triplett, Susan Triplett, Casey Watson

Kathryn read the minutes of the March meeting, which led into a discussion of the website. Our current webmaster, Jeff Ray, is leaving the CAGP. Casey and Susan offered to find a web-designer among their contacts to help out, either for pay or gratis. We voted to give Nick the access codes for the current website in the hope that he would be able to add important announcement changes in the meantime.

Treasurer, Mark Ortiz, reported that current CAGP bank balance is $3,412.53.

Alan discussed plans to introduce a bylaws revision on the yahoo group, concerning decision-making by the Coordinating Committee between monthly meetings. Kathryn pointed out that the bylaws change proposal must be posted two weeks before the meeting during which the vote to approve it will take place.

New officers of the Coordinating Committee for April 2004 through April 2005 were elected. Nick and Alan are the CAGP co-coordinators, Kathryn and Susan will be co-clerks, and Casey is our new treasurer. (Hurray! And thanks Mark for keeping us in line with the Board of Elections over the last two years.) Annual dues were set again at $5.

Kathryn and Judy Aulette will oversee the CAGP table on April 22 at the UNCC Earth Day event, which takes place from 10AM-3PM at the Belk Tower on the UNCC campus. The CAGP approved $60 for printing expenses and posters, and possibly sunflower seeds.

Gregg Jocoy attended the Labor Day Parade Committee meeting on April 15. He reported that the LDC plans this year to have only a parade. CAGP remains a sponsor.

Alan reported that the last event at Talley’s was attended by only three people (including himself) and so suggested that after the May 10 appearance there of David Cobb, the CAGP discontinue these events.

Alan introduced his plan for the CAGP to launch a Clean Air Initiative that would propose to the Mecklenburg County Commission strategies for cleaning up the air in the Charlotte region.

The next stream clean-up will be May 8 from 9-11 AM. Anyone interested in helping should be at the Sugar Creek bridge near Wendy’s on Independence Blvd across from Midtown Square.

The 2004 May meeting of the CAGP will be at Brixx Pizza on 6th Street, a block or so down from the main public library on May 8th from 1-3:30 PM.
