CHARLOTTE AREA GREEN PARTY April 13, 2008 MEETING MINUTES


Attending: Akram Alami, Tom Bowers, Alan Burns, Len Clemmer, Ken Hausle, Kathryn Kuppers, Harry Phillips, Nick Triplett, Susan Triplett Ken Hausle reported that the CAGP checking account has $395.92 and $80 to deposit.

Harry reported that the Ella Baker Tour event at CPCC was well attended and students were enthusiastic.

The next Little Sugar Creek stream clean-up was set for 9 AM on Saturday May 24. We will meet at the Wendy’s parking lot on Charlottetown Ave. (formerly Independence Blvd) near the new Target/Home Depot complex.

The CAGP will table at the Earth Day event at Ray’s Splash Planet on April 19 and at the UNCC Earth Day event on April 22. Alan will be responsible for the tabling materials at Ray’s Splash Planet and Kathryn will probably table at UNCC by herself.

Dues for the CAGP membership year, April 2008-April 2009, were set at $10. The meeting voted to make Ken Hausle a life-time member for his last year’s contribution of $250 to the CAGP.

The meeting between NCGP plaintiffs and ACLU lawyers in the case about ballot access will be April 15 in Raleigh. The trial is scheduled for May 5, the day before the NC primary.

Both Ken Davies and Nick spoke persuasively at the Black Caucus Endorsement Forum. Nick received the caucus’s endorsement, focusing on living wage, affordable health care, renewable energy, and improving schools.

Ken Davies also spoke at the Cliffside Protest on April 5 at Freedom Park.

Nick asked for help in distributing campaign materials at the early voting at CPCC’s Overcash building , which begins April 17 and runs through April 28. Ken Hausle will help. Nick and Ken will participate in the WTVI forum for Mecklenburg County commissioner candidates on April 14. The forum will be re-televised on the 17th. The NCGP semiannual gathering will be in Asheville on April 26. Alan, Kathryn and Akram plan to attend.

CAGP 2008-2009 officers were elected. Tom and Nick remain co-coordinators, Ken Hausle remains treasurer, Susan remains co-clerk, and Akram was elected to replace Kathryn as the other co-clerk. Annual sponsorship of the Clean Air Coalition in the amount of $75 was approved. The 2008 Charlotte Labor Day Parade entrance fee of $150 was also approved and paid.

The next CAGP quarterly meeting is tentatively scheduled for July 12 at 11 AM at 1028 Thomas Avenue, Charlotte.
